Enugu CP Trains Officers on Investigation, Case Management

-

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has organised a three-day intensive training programme on investigation and case management for officers of the state command as part of efforts to improve professionalism and effective service delivery.

The training, which targeted investigative officers and other personnel of the command, was designed to strengthen investigative capacity, enhance prosecutorial processes, and promote professionalism in the administration of criminal justice.

Participants included Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Divisional Crime Officers, officers of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Inspectors of Crime from divisions across the state, and personnel serving in other investigative units.

Speaking at the opening of the programme, the Commissioner of Police, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID, Hope Okereke Isiani, urged participants to take the training seriously and maximise the opportunity.

He explained that the initiative was aimed at equipping officers with the necessary knowledge and skills to improve their efficiency in handling investigations in line with global standards.

“The training is designed to equip police personnel with the requisite knowledge and skills to enhance their effectiveness and proficiency in the discharge of their investigative duties in line with international best practices,” he said.

He also warned officers against negligence in handling investigations and case management.

“Lapses of any kind in investigation and general case management will no longer be tolerated,” he added.

During the training, participants received lectures on key areas including the compilation and vetting of case files, investigation report writing, suspects’ rights and confessional statements, lapses in prosecution and plea of justice, as well as the recovery and management of exhibits.

Resource persons for the programme were drawn from retired senior police officers and the Enugu State Ministry of Justice. They included Chief (Barr.) G. N. Okereke (DCP Rtd), DCP (Dr.) Olusoji Akinbayo (Rtd), ACP (Barr.) Agbazue Oge (Rtd), CSP (Dr.) Pascal Nwachukwu (Rtd), and Chief Magistrate Egbo Ngozi.

Participants at the training expressed satisfaction with the knowledge gained and pledged to apply the insights and skills acquired to improve investigative processes within their respective divisions. #SECURITYNEWSALERT.COM
