Enugu Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect, Recover Pistol in Citizen-Supported Operation

-

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 26-year-old armed robbery suspect, Chekwube Agbo, in Obollo Etiti, Udenu Local Government Area, after a citizen tip-off led officers to his suspicious activities at a local hotel.

Police say the arrest took place on August 10, 2026, at about 1:45 p.m., when operatives searched Agbo’s bag and discovered a locally made pistol and a live cartridge. He was immediately taken into custody along with the recovered exhibits.

During interrogation, Agbo admitted to being part of a gang that targets Point-of-Sale (POS) operators. “I am a member of an armed robbery gang that specialises in threatening and robbing POS operators,” he confessed, adding that his accomplices fled the scene upon his arrest.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, praised the citizen whose timely information led to the arrest.

“This arrest underscores the importance of community support in policing. We urge the public to continue to provide credible information about suspicious persons and activities,” Giwa said. He assured that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing gang members.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, emphasised that the suspect will face prosecution once the investigation is concluded. “The Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Enugu State,” Ndukwe stated.
