The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended three members of a notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate linked to the brutal killing of Barrister Princess Chigbo Nwamaka Mediatrix.
The breakthrough comes just days after the legal practitioner was targeted in a violent heist that has sent shockwaves through the capital city.
According to police reports, the tragedy unfolded on January 5 when Barrister Chigbo boarded a black Volkswagen Golf 3 along the Kubwa Expressway, believing it to be a commercial vehicle. Once inside, the gang’s trap was sprung.
“The suspects wound up the tinted windows, threatened her with weapons, and demanded ransom,” a police spokesperson revealed. “When she bravely resisted their demands, she was violently assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle.”
The fall proved fatal, leading to her untimely death.
Following the incident, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, issued a directive for an intensive manhunt. The Command’s “Scorpion Squad,” led by ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, utilised advanced digital intelligence to track the victim’s stolen mobile phone.
The investigation culminated in coordinated raids across the Dei-Dei, Dakwa, and Dan-Tata communities in Kubwa. The operatives successfully nabbed 22-year-old Saifullahi Yusuf, his 24-year-old brother Ishau Yusuf, and Minka’ilu Jibril, also known as Dan-Hajia. All three suspects are natives of Kaduna State and have reportedly confessed to being members of the syndicate.
“The gang confessed to selling her Android phone for ₦120,000 and sharing the proceeds among themselves,” the statement noted.
CP Miller Dantawaye commended the Scorpion Squad for their swift action but reminded the public that the work is not yet finished.
“We are intensifying efforts to arrest a fourth suspect who remains at large,” the CP stated. “The Command remains committed to crushing these criminal syndicates and ensuring the safety of all FCT residents.”
Police have recovered weapons and restraints believed to have been used in various operations. Meanwhile, the authorities are urging residents to exercise extreme caution when boarding vehicles and to avoid those with heavily tinted windows or suspicious occupants.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity to the FCT Command via 08032003913 or 07057337653.
