Ogun State Governor Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun has issued an official confirmation regarding a tragic road traffic accident involving two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.
The collision, which occurred earlier Tuesday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, resulted in the loss of two lives.
The Governor revealed that a vehicle carrying a team of four collided with a stationary truck. While two members of the party did not survive the impact, Joshua and a second passenger were promptly evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos.
According to the Governor’s statement, a full medical team has been constituted to oversee their care, and clinical evaluations have confirmed that both survivors are in stable condition and do not currently require emergency intervention.
Governor Abiodun, who expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased, noted that the heavyweight champion is conscious and has been in direct contact with his family.
The Governor further emphasised that the governments of both Ogun and Lagos States are closely monitoring the situation to ensure all affected individuals receive premium medical treatment.
As investigations into the circumstances of the crash commence, Governor Abiodun joined the public in offering prayers for the bereaved while respectfully requesting privacy for Joshua and his family during the recovery process.
