Group Urges CP Ogun State to Recover N100,000 Bail Money From Ajuwon Police Station

-

A human rights group, Committee For The Defence Of Human Rights, has urged the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo and Ogun State Police Relations Officer, to intervene in a case of alleged extortion by Ajuwon Police Division to the tune of N100,000.00 in the name of bail by Mrs Fatimo Adeola.

The Committee writes: “The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights attend to a viral picture of a little girl that was maltreated by one Alfa Lukman Abioye living within Ogun state at number 1 Abioye block off Salami street, Ishaishi road, Akute, Ogun state.

“Early this morning, the Chairman intervention committee for the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, Comrade Isa Oyetunji, in company with Comrade Ibrahim Lameed, visited number 1 Abioye block off Salami street, Ishaish road, Akute, Ogun state.

“We met Alfa Wife, Mrs Ajike Abioye, the mother-in-law in-law Mrs Fatimo Adeola and an elderly woman who informed us that she is Alfa Lukman Abioye’s mother.

“We demanded to see Alfa Lukman Abioye, but we were informed that he had been arrested since yesterday morning before the naming ceremony by Ajuwon Police division, and information reaching them this morning was that he has been transferred to Ogun state Command, Eleweran.

“We were relieved that the police had taken proper action to save the little girl’s life. But the unexpected happened when the mother-in-law in-law Mrs Fatimo Adeola, narrated her ordeal in the hands of the Ajuwon Police division.

Mrs Fatimo Adeola explained further that she was also arrested by the Ajuwon Police division yesterday simply because she told the police that the little girl, Islamiyah Ibrahim, is her grandchild, and she brought her to her son in-law Alfa Lukman Abioye, she said she also complained bitterly when she saw bruises on Islamiyah Ibrahim.

“Mrs Fatimo Adeola Alfa Lukman Abioye, mother-in-law, said she was at the station till evening before the head of the team, one Alhaja, a police officer in Ajuwon Division, asked her to bail herself. Mrs Fatimo Adeola said the head of the team, known to her as Alhaja, demanded   ₦100,000.00 for bail.

Mrs Fatimo Adeola explained that one Mr Adebayo Hameen, a friend of her son-in-law, Alfa Lukman Abioye, put a call through to Mrs Ajike Abioye to look for money so that her mother could be released by the police. Mrs Fatimo Adeola said Mr Adebayo Hameen later transferred ₦70,000.00 to Alhaja, the head of the police, and also gave her ₦30,000.00, making the total sum of  ₦100,000.00 the total amount collected by the said Police officer known as Alhaja, head of the team from Ajuwon Police division.

“Out of curiosity the committee for the defence of human rights visited the DPO CSP Joseph Yussuf at Ajuwon Division to get a clearer picture of the extortion  We met the DPO in his office and asked after the little girl Islamiyah Ibrahim that was maltreated by Alfa Lukman Abioye, the DPO responded that the suspect Alfa Lukman Abioye has been transferred to Ogun state Command Eleweran.

“We also ceased the opportunity to narrate the information we got from Mrs Fatimo Adeola about the extortion to the tune of ₦100,000.00 in the name of bail to the DPO, but it was a Surprise to us as the DPO CSP Joseph Yussuf never responded to the issue of extortion, his body language speaks a lot as he told us repeatedly that the case have been transferred to Ogun state Command Eleweran not minding the Alleged extortion of his officer known as Alhaja.

“My able CP Lanre Ogunlowo Sir, the Committee for the defence of human rights is using this medium to appeal to you, to use your good officer for immediate refund of the sum of ₦100,000.00 extorted from Mrs Fatimo Adeola in the name of bail by an officer known as Alhaja, as we all know that bail is free.
