Herder arrested for inflicting machete cuts on farmer

Homicide detectives attached to the Oyo State Police Command have arrested 20 years old Buba Bello for being among suspected herdsmen that allegedly attacked and attempted to kill 60 years old Muritala Akano in his farmland at Tokun Village via Oyo.

The attack was said to have happened on 10th August 2022 at about 1:54 PM. It was gathered that on that fateful day, three herders, believed to be part of a notorious armed robbery syndicate invaded the farmland of Akano at Tokun Village via Oyo.

The Oyo State Police Public Officer (PPRO), a Superintendent of Police, Adewale Osifeso, said: “The suspects inflicted severe machete cuts on the victim, dispossessing him of his mobile phone and his motorcycle and left him in a pool of his blood when he appeared to have passed out. The victim was later rescued by Good Samaritans and rushed to Oyo Town for medical attention. Upon receipt of the incident, discreet investigations were launched and, one of the suspects later identified as Buba Bello was arrested in connection with the crime. The mobile phone carted away from the victim was recovered from the suspect. Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and other robbery operations he and his syndicate had masterminded within the area.”
