Hundreds Flee Bauchi Communities After Deadly Bandit Attacks, Take Refuge in Gombe

-

Hundreds of residents from four communities in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State have been displaced following a series of deadly bandit attacks, forcing them to seek refuge in neighbouring Kashere in Gombe State.

The displaced residents are currently taking shelter in a temporary Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp established in Kashere, located in Akko Local Government Area, after fleeing violent raids that reportedly left several communities devastated.

Local sources said the attacks, believed to have been carried out by heavily armed bandits, triggered panic across parts of Alkaleri Local Government Area, forcing families to abandon their homes, farms, and belongings in search of safety.

Many of the displaced residents—comprising women, children, and elderly persons—arrived in Kashere with little or no possessions. They are currently being sheltered in makeshift structures as community leaders and humanitarian groups work to provide basic relief materials.

Residents who fled the violence said the attackers stormed their communities in large numbers, shooting sporadically and causing widespread fear that led to mass displacement.

“We had no choice but to run for our lives. People left everything behind just to survive,” one displaced resident reportedly said.

The influx of displaced persons has placed additional pressure on host communities in Kashere, where local authorities and volunteers are attempting to coordinate emergency assistance.

Humanitarian concerns are also mounting as many of the displaced families now face shortages of food, clean water, and medical supplies in the temporary camp.

Banditry has remained a major security challenge across parts of northern Nigeria, with rural communities frequently targeted in raids involving killings, kidnappings, and destruction of property. The crisis has forced thousands of residents in affected areas to flee their homes in recent years.

Security analysts say the movement of displaced residents across state boundaries highlights the growing humanitarian impact of insecurity in the region and the need for coordinated responses between state governments and federal security agencies.

Authorities in Bauchi and Gombe states are yet to issue detailed statements on the latest displacement, but local leaders have called for urgent security intervention to enable affected residents to safely return to their communities. #Securitynewsalert.com
