The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered stepped-up security measures across Kebbi State following a terrorist attack in the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area that left ten police officers and several civilians dead.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the IGP dispatched a high-level delegation to the state on Tuesday, led by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada. The team met with Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, and other stakeholders to discuss the security situation and reinforce efforts to prevent further attacks.
The statement said the delegation conveyed the IGP’s “deep concern” over the loss of the officers and civilians, and reaffirmed that the Nigeria Police Force is committed to ensuring the fallen officers’ sacrifice “is not in vain.” The IGP has reportedly directed that all available operational and intelligence resources be deployed to track down and apprehend those behind the attack.
The Force also pledged continued welfare support for the families of the slain officers, in line with its existing welfare policies, while ensuring their service is properly honoured.
Speaking during the engagement, Governor Idris commended the police for the courage and sacrifice of its personnel and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting security agencies in tackling terrorism and crime within Kebbi. He assured the delegation of Kebbi State’s continued collaboration with security agencies, particularly around intelligence sharing and denying criminal elements any haven in the state.
In the statement, the IGP thanked the Kebbi State Government for its ongoing partnership and reiterated the Force’s resolve to intensify intelligence-led operations against terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes.
“The Force remains resolute in its constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property,” the statement read, adding that the Police will continue working with the Kebbi State Government, sister security agencies, and local communities to secure residents across the state and the wider country.
The Nigeria Police Force said it honours the memory of the fallen officers and stands with their families, assuring the public that those responsible for the attack will be brought to justice. #Securitynewsalert.com
