The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has hosted what he described as a landmark interfaith Iftar and Lent dinner for police officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, emphasising unity and religious harmony within the Nigeria Police Force.
The event, held on Wednesday, brought together officers of different faiths in what authorities said was the first gathering of its kind at the Force Headquarters. It aimed to promote tolerance, mutual respect, and cohesion among personnel.
Speaking at the event, Disu highlighted the importance of Ramadan and Lent as periods of reflection, sacrifice, and service.
“Despite our differences in faith and tradition, officers of the Nigeria Police Force are united by shared values of discipline, compassion, and devotion to duty,” the IGP said. “Religious harmony within the Force remains a strong foundation for professionalism and effective service delivery.”
He also extended goodwill to Muslim faithful observing Ramadan, urging them to embrace the values of peace, tolerance, and selflessness associated with the season.
Disu further assured Nigerians of improved security nationwide, stating that measures had been intensified across commands and formations.
“Security has been significantly strengthened across all states of the federation, with enhanced deployments, increased surveillance, and proactive measures to ensure a safe and peaceful environment throughout the festive period,” he said.
Dignitaries at the event included Senator Amos Yohanna of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs; Honourable Jafar Yakubu of the House Committee on Police Affairs; President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, Mrs. Oluwafumilola Disu; Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu; retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu; and Professor Imam Musa of the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Abuja Branch, among other stakeholders.
