Nigerian Army Arrests Two Suspected Gunrunners, Recovers 444 Rounds of Ammunition in Taraba

-

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have arrested two suspected gunrunners and recovered 444 rounds of ammunition in Taraba State.

The arrests were made on March 19, 2026, during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base in Wukari, along the Wukari–Ikyaior Road in Wukari Local Government Area.

According to the Army, the suspects identified as Wisdom Soomga, 32, from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, and Elisha Danladi, 38, a native of Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, were intercepted while riding a motorcycle.

“A thorough search of the suspects led to the recovery of 444 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” the Army said in a statement.

Other items recovered from the suspects include ₦29,200 in cash, two mobile phones, ATM cards, charms, personal belongings, and the motorcycle used for transportation.

The Army confirmed that the suspects and the recovered items are currently in custody for further investigation. “The investigation is aimed at ascertaining the source and intended use of the ammunition,” the statement added.

Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their vigilance and swift response.

He said the operation aligned with the directives of the Chief of Army Staff to decisively eliminate criminal elements and enhance security across Taraba State.

Akaliro urged the troops to sustain the momentum, stating that they must “remain resolute in their efforts to rid the area of all forms of criminality.”

He also reassured residents of the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property. “Law-abiding citizens are encouraged to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities,” he said.

The commander further emphasised the Army’s commitment to rewarding professionalism and discipline among its personnel. “Officers and soldiers who demonstrate professionalism, dedication, and courage during operations will be duly recognised and rewarded,” he added. #Securitynewsalert.com
