IGP Disu Reaffirms Commitment to Professional Policing, Honoured at Lagos State Banquet

-

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has been honoured at a State Banquet hosted by the Lagos State Government, where he reaffirmed his commitment to professional policing and community partnership.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the event held on Saturday at the Lagos State House, Marina, followed Disu’s appointment as the 23rd Indigenous and 33rd Inspector-General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, described the IGP as “a product of Lagos, shaped by its communities and institutions, and defined by a strong commitment to service.”

Sanwo-Olu noted that the honour reflects Disu’s legacy of leadership, particularly during his tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos.

In his remarks, the IGP expressed appreciation to the government and people of Lagos State for the recognition, describing the event as “a personal homecoming.”

He said, “I am deeply grateful for this warm reception. Lagos has been a significant part of my career, and I remain committed to restoring public trust, upholding professionalism, and strengthening community partnerships in policing.”

Disu further pledged to enhance collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Government, and key security stakeholders, including the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, to sustain safety and stability.

He also called on Nigerians to support law enforcement efforts, stressing that “security is a shared responsibility involving government, the private sector, civil society, and citizens.”

The banquet drew dignitaries, senior officials, and security stakeholders, underscoring the strong relationship between Lagos State and the Inspector-General, as well as their shared commitment to service, leadership, and national development.
