IGP Establishes High-Level Committee to Revitalize Police Welfare and Service Conditions

-

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has inaugurated a high-level committee to review and harmonise the Scheme of Service and Harmonised Condition of Service for Nigeria Police officers.

The inauguration, held on 12th August 2025 at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, marks a major step towards modernising the administrative and operational framework of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The committee is commissioned to: align the Police Scheme of Service with national public service rules and the Police Act; gather input from key stakeholders, including the Police Service Commission, Ministry of Police Affairs, and Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, and thereafter, submit an updated draft within two weeks.

Chaired by AIG Nemi Iwo, the 10-member committee includes senior officers from diverse specialisations, alongside a representative of the Police Service Commission.

The IGP emphasised that the move reflects the Force’s commitment to professional growth, better welfare, a stronger capacity to address modern security challenges and his unrelenting commitment to ensuring that the Nigeria Police Force operates with the most current and effective administrative frameworks.

This comes alongside other significant steps towards enhancing the welfare of police officers, both serving and retired, by the administration, such as improved living conditions and better retirement benefits
