Nigeria Police Force Probes Popular Musician, KWAM 1, over Alleged Airport Misconduct

-

The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, over alleged unruly conduct at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The probe follows a petition from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), accusing the musician of obstructing the safe operation of a ValueJet aircraft on August 5, 2025.

According to the petition, the incident occurred during the boarding of ValueJet flight VK201 when KWAM 1 allegedly stood in front of the taxiing aircraft, forcing the crew to abort manoeuvres. A heated exchange between the singer and airline staff, captured on video, has since circulated online, raising concerns over aviation safety.

The NCAA said the act contravenes the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations 2023 and called for a criminal investigation.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, to carry out a thorough probe. If found guilty, KWAM 1 could face prosecution, sanctions, and possible placement on a no-fly list.

The NCAA noted that it has intensified enforcement against unruly passengers amid a surge in disruptive incidents at airports and onboard flights. In a recent case, a female passenger was permanently banned by Ibom Air for assaulting cabin crew and security staff mid-flight.

The aviation authority also announced plans to expand public sensitisation campaigns to educate air travellers on their responsibilities and ensure stricter compliance with safety regulations.
