The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Thursday honoured a retired traffic officer whose years of service earned her the admiration of residents and road users in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
At a ceremony held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the IGP presented retired Deputy Superintendent of Traffic (DST) Anifa Bello Abiodun with the IGP’s Award of Recognition, along with a cash gift, in appreciation of her service to the Nigeria Police Force.
The IGP praised the retired officer for her professionalism, discipline, resilience and dedication to traffic management during her time with the Ogun State Police Command. Her commitment to duty and consistent service to the public won her goodwill in the communities where she worked, and that appreciation eventually grew into public recognition of her efforts.
Speaking at the event, the IGP said the public appreciates the Police when officers carry out their duties professionally and responsibly. He noted that public dissatisfaction is usually directed at misconduct by individuals rather than at the institution itself. He said he was pleased that the retired officer had earned the respect and recognition of the community she served.
The IGP added that while the Force will continue to hold personnel accountable for misconduct, it is equally important to acknowledge and reward officers who show professionalism, integrity and exemplary service. According to him, such recognition reinforces the values expected of personnel and encourages others to excel in their duties.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to accountability and to rewarding good conduct. It said recognising dedicated personnel strengthens public confidence and contributes to policing and service delivery across the country.
