The CLEEN Foundation has issued a strong condemnation of the “barbaric and unconscionable” public execution of Brigadier General Musa Uba, Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The General was killed alongside four operatives, two soldiers and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), during a routine patrol to secure communities along the Damboa-Biu axis. The heinous act, claimed by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), was carried out in a manner “calculated to sow terror,” according to the statement.
In a press release titled, “CLEEN Foundation Condemns the Heinous Public Execution of Brigadier General Uba: An Unacceptable Act of Aggression Against the State,” the Executive Director, Peter Maduoma, stressed that the incident is more than a crime against an individual.
“This heinous act… is not merely a crime against an individual but a direct and intolerable act of aggression against the sovereignty, stability, and security of the Nigerian State,” the Foundation stated.
CLEEN described the public murder of General Uba and his dedicated team as a “brazen challenge to our sovereignty and the rule of law” and a “profound assault on the very institutions that guarantee peace and order.” The Foundation insisted such acts must not be tolerated and demanded an “immediate, resolute, and unified response” from all levels of government.
The tragic incident, the Foundation noted, underscores the urgent need for deeper reforms in Nigeria’s security architecture, improved civilian–security cooperation, and proactive conflict-prevention strategies.
“Violence against state actors is a threat to all Nigerians and must be confronted decisively and lawfully,” the statement read, adding that military personnel, as protectors of national integrity, cannot be targeted with such impunity.
The CLEEN Foundation, therefore, issued a strong call for action: All relevant security agencies must launch a “thorough, swift, and comprehensive investigation into the compromise of his location” to ensure that the perpetrators and all those who aided them are apprehended and brought to justice through due process and the full force of the law.
The Foundation reiterated its commitment to democracy, insisting that aggression and extra-judicial violence must “never be allowed to replace the state’s monopoly on legitimate force and justice.”
CLEEN Foundation extended its deepest condolences to the family of Brigadier General Uba, the other fallen heroes, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the nation.
“The government must act decisively to reaffirm its authority and demonstrate that such acts of terror against the State will be met with uncompromising resolve and swift justice,” concluded the statement.
