Insecurity: FG Finally Declares National Security Emergencies in High-Risk Areas

-

The Federal Government has formally declared national security emergencies in vulnerable and high-risk areas across the country, authorising intensified joint operations and the sustained deployment of security forces to priority locations.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on the sidelines of the Nigeria–United States security engagement held at the Office of the National Security Adviser in Abuja.

According to Idris, the declaration underscores the government’s resolve to confront security threats and protect civilians in areas most affected by violence.

“The Federal Government has formally declared national security emergencies in vulnerable and high-risk areas, authorised intensified joint operations, and directed the sustained deployment of security forces to priority locations,” the minister said.

He noted that recent bilateral engagements between Nigeria and the United States demonstrate a shared commitment to religious freedom and civilian protection, while also reflecting a strategic partnership built on trust and shared responsibility.

“These engagements reflect not only Nigeria’s shared commitment with the United States to religious freedom and civilian protection, but also a strategic relationship grounded in trust and shared responsibility,” Idris stated.

The minister further revealed that the government is strengthening early warning mechanisms and developing a national database to improve the accuracy and credibility of security data nationwide.

“Nigeria is working to strengthen early warning systems and to develop a national database that will provide a single, authoritative source of accurate and verifiable figures on casualties arising from violence,” he said. “This will enhance evidence-based decision-making, accountability, and more effective security responses.”

The declaration comes amid ongoing efforts by the federal government to address insecurity through coordinated military, intelligence and diplomatic engagements, both locally and with international partners.
