Kidnap Victim Rescued, Arms, Drugs Seized as Delta Police Smashes Crime Rings

The State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnap victim, recovered a Beretta pistol, and intercepted a significant haul of illicit narcotics.

The multi-day crackdown, which spanned from April 1 to April 3, 2026, highlights the Command’s intensified “intelligence-led” approach to flushing out criminal elements within the state.

On April 2, operatives from the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) acted on a tip-off and raided a residence in the NDDC Area of Sapele. During the thorough search of the property on Ogborumu Street, officers arrested 29-year-old Evan Olokpa Igbunu. The search led to the discovery of one Beretta pistol and three rounds of live ammunition hidden inside the building.

A kidnapping ordeal ended in relief on April 3 when police, working alongside local vigilantes and hunters, stormed a forest hideout. The victim had been abducted by armed men from a residence at Denedo Extension on April 1.

As the rescue team closed in on a bush area along the railway line, the gunmen fled to avoid capture, abandoning their captive. The victim is reported safe and is currently providing useful information to the police.

The Command also struck a blow against local drug syndicates in two separate raids. In Effurun on April 3, Tare Orusanaye was apprehended on Jakpa Road in possession of a weighing scale and cannabis concealed inside a generator tank. Earlier, on the night of April 1, a surveillance team in Ovwian-Aladja forced a group of suspects to flee the Igbogidi axis, leaving behind a sack filled with suspected hard drugs.

The Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the professionalism of the various divisions involved, emphasising that proactive policing remains the Command’s top priority.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed that investigations into all cases are ongoing while the Command scales up its efforts to track down the suspects who remain at large. CP Oyeniyi urged members of the public to continue providing the credible information that makes these successes possible. #Securitynewsalert.com
