The victims abducted from the Eda-Oniyo community in Ekiti State have regained their freedom after spending several weeks in captivity.
The freed victims are currently receiving medical attention at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado-Ekiti, where doctors are assessing their health following the traumatic experience.
However, the incident ended in tragedy as one of the abductees, an 84-year-old woman, died while in captivity. Her death has been confirmed, although the circumstances surrounding it have not yet been officially disclosed.
The abduction caused widespread concern among residents of Eda-Oniyo and neighbouring communities, with repeated calls for intensified efforts by security agencies to secure the victims’ release amid rising incidents of kidnapping in parts of Ekiti State.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the victims’ release, including whether any arrests were made or if a ransom was paid to secure their freedom.
