President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly terrorist attack on Worro community that left several villagers dead.
The President, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the newly deployed military command will lead Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at combating terrorist activities and safeguarding vulnerable communities in the area.
Tinubu strongly condemned the attack, describing it as cowardly and inhumane. He denounced the assailants for targeting unarmed civilians in what he called a failed campaign of terror.
The President also expressed anger over reports that the victims were killed after refusing attempts by the attackers to indoctrinate them into violent extremism. He commended the community members for rejecting radical ideology and maintaining their peaceful religious beliefs.
“It’s commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promoted violence over peace and dialogue,” the President stated.
Tinubu called for increased collaboration between federal and state agencies to support affected residents and ensure that perpetrators of the attack are brought to justice.
He offered prayers for the souls of the deceased and extended condolences to families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of Kwara State.
