… Recovers Stolen Armoured Cables, Other Exhibits

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, on Monday paraded seven male suspects, aged between 27 and 44, over various crimes, including the vandalism of critical national infrastructure and theft of equipment across the state.

The State Commandant, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, FNARC, said the suspects were involved in offences ranging from the vandalism of armoured and transformer cables to the theft of eight lithium batteries and a Radio Remote Unit (RRU) inverter, all occurring at different locations in Lagos.

Also paraded were two Togolese nationals, aged 32 and 27, who allegedly deserted the Togolese Army and were apprehended around the Badagry axis of the state.

Briefing journalists at the Command’s headquarters in Alausa, Keshinro said the arrests followed sustained community engagement with stakeholders. He said credible intelligence from the Okun Ajah Community and Proton Security Ltd led to the arrest of two male suspects at 2:51 p.m. on Saturday, 27 June, in connection with the vandalism of MTN armoured cables.

The stolen cables were recovered alongside a commercial shuttle bus, popularly known as “korepe,” with registration number MUS109YH (Benue State).

The Commandant said two other suspects linked to the cable vandalism, estimated to be worth millions of naira, remain at large, and vowed that the Command would not relent until they were arrested and prosecuted.

In a related operation on Friday, 26 June, another male suspect was arrested in Sogunle for vandalising transformer cables.

A separate suspect was apprehended at 4 p.m. on Saturday, 15 June, for stealing eight lithium batteries on Orchid Road, Lekki. Investigations are ongoing to track down others connected to the theft.

Keshinro added that a suspect arrested on 7 April in Banana Island over the theft of an RRU inverter cable is currently undergoing prosecution.

On the Togolese nationals, the Commandant said the deserters, apprehended by the Command’s Badagry operatives, have been handed over to the appropriate government agency for further investigation. Other suspects arrested in connection with illegal migration during the same operation have been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos State Command.

Keshinro used the briefing to renew his warning to vandals to desist from what he described as acts of economic sabotage that inflict hardship and suffering on innocent citizens or face the full weight of the law. #Securitynewsalert.com
