Lagos, Ogun Governments Commiserate with Families as Anthony Joshua Is Discharged from Hospital

-

The Lagos and Ogun State governments have expressed renewed condolences to the families of two young men, Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami, who lost their lives in a road accident involving Nigerian-born British boxer Anthony Joshua on December 29, 2025.

According to a statement reposted by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu, Lagos and Ogun states governments described the incident as tragic and painful, praying for the repose of the deceased and strength for their families.

The statement confirmed that Anthony Joshua was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday after being certified clinically fit, though he was said to be deeply emotional over the loss of his close friends. He is expected to continue his recovery from home.

It added that Joshua, accompanied by his mother, visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay final respects to the deceased as preparations were made for their repatriation later the same day.

Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State also thanked Nigerians for the outpouring of sympathy and support following the incident. They further expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his “fatherly support” throughout the process.

The governments also commended the doctors and medical personnel of Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, for their professionalism and quality of care in attending to Joshua and other injured victims.
