Ondo Police Condemns Attack on Ipele Divisional Headquarters, Denies Church Was Targeted

-

The Ondo State Police Command has condemned the attack on the Ipele Divisional Police Headquarters in Ose Local Government Area of the state, which occurred on December 31, 2025.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Command clarified that contrary to reports circulating on social media, no church was attacked during the incident.

According to police findings, at about 9:41 p.m., between 20 and 30 armed men stormed the police facility, firing assault rifles and deploying explosives. Parts of the station were set ablaze, leading to the destruction of the building and some exhibits. The police confirmed that no casualty was recorded as of the time of filing the report.

Following the attack, a joint security patrol comprising the Police, Military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other security agencies was deployed to the area. However, the assailants had fled before the arrival of the security teams.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, described the attack as a reprehensible act against public peace and security. He assured residents that the situation has been brought under control and urged the public to remain calm.
