Lagos Police Activate CCTV Surveillance Centre to Boost Security on Lagos Island

-

The Lagos State Police Command has activated a closed-circuit television (CCTV) Surveillance Centre as part of efforts to strengthen technology-driven policing and enhance security across Lagos Island and adjoining areas.

The facility, which became operational on January 14, 2026, was unveiled under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh. According to the command, the surveillance centre enables real-time monitoring of critical infrastructure, including the Third Mainland Bridge, surrounding waterways and other strategic locations on the island.

In a statement released on Saturday, the police said the centre was built and fully equipped by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Ministry of Works, under the supervision of the Minister, Engr. Dave Umahi. The command described the development as a proactive measure aimed at preventing crime and safeguarding lives and property.

“The CCTV Surveillance Centre provides real-time monitoring that will support intelligence-led policing and ensure swift response to security threats,” the statement said.

The command also disclosed that two operational vehicles were handed over to support the initiative on January 16, 2026. The surveillance facility, which also functions as Control Room 5, operates кругл the clock and is manned by well-trained officers to ensure continuous monitoring and rapid deployment when necessary.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has called on members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities. Residents can reach the command through its emergency lines: 0706 101 9374, 0806 515 4338, 0806 329 9264, and 0803 934 4870.

The police reiterated that public cooperation remains critical to maintaining security and preventing crime across the state.
