The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a “vicious and notorious” armed robbery and car-snatching gang responsible for a series of violent attacks across multiple states.
In a statement released today, Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed that the arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Command’s Tactical Squads at a hideout in Igando, Lagos.
The operation, which ran between 1:00 AM on October 15 and 3:00 AM on October 17, led to the capture of the four male suspects: Taiwo Alabi, 42; Ogedengbe Lowis, 46; Ighodalo Enato Francis, 37; and Osaro Eghe Abiodun, 34.
According to the police, the gang’s modus operandi involved posing as passengers to enter vehicles. While in transit, they would dispossess the drivers of their vehicles at gunpoint.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed and have been linked to armed robbery incidents in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and Edo States.
A significant cache of exhibits was recovered from the suspects, including:
- One automatic pump-action shotgun
- One Beretta pistol
- Forty-eight (48) rounds of 9mm ammunition
- Forty-six (46) live cartridges
- One cutlass and assorted criminal charms
- Four stolen vehicles: one Toyota Sienna, two Lexus ES350 salon cars, and one Toyota Corolla salon car.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the successful operation followed weeks of coordinated surveillance and tracking of the suspects across the involved states.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assured residents that the Command remains committed to dismantling all criminal syndicates and will “continue to ensure peace, stability, and intelligence-led policing to rid the State of criminal elements.”
Police officials added that investigative efforts are being intensified to apprehend other gang members who are currently at large.
