The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Lagos, AIG Simeon Akpanudom, on Wednesday, paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), signalling a renewed push to deepen cooperation in tackling domestic and sexual violence across the state.
The Executive Secretary of the DSVA, Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, welcomed the delegation and pointed to the measurable gains already achieved through the two institutions’ partnership — including improved referral pathways for survivors, higher prosecution rates, stronger inter-agency coordination, and a reduction in secondary victimisation.
“Victims of domestic and sexual violence require continuous support and care to recover from the trauma associated with such experiences,” she said, underscoring the need to keep survivor welfare at the centre of every response.
Mrs Vivour-Adeniyi used the occasion to make a formal appeal for the establishment of a dedicated Gender-Based Violence Desk within the FCID Annex, alongside capacity-building programmes for detectives and support for furnishing the proposed office. She argued that closer engagement with the FCID Annex — the apex investigative arm of the Nigeria Police Force — would strengthen access to justice for survivors.
AIG Akpanudom, in his response, welcomed the proposal and described it as evidence of both institutions’ commitment to sustained collaboration. He reaffirmed the FCID Annex’s dedication to professionalism and objectivity in handling gender-based violence cases.
The AIG also praised the Agency’s Sexual Offenders Register as a “laudable initiative” that has enhanced offender monitoring and promoted accountability in the criminal justice system. He proposed integrating relevant conviction records with the Central Criminal Registry to improve documentation and support the tracking of serial offenders.
Both organisations left the meeting with renewed commitments to strengthen victim-centred approaches and improve the overall criminal justice response to domestic and sexual violence in Lagos State. #Securitynewsalert.com
