The Lagos State Police Command has inaugurated a special tactical unit called the “Command Sweepers Squad” to address rising criminal activity in Ikorodu and surrounding communities.
The squad, announced by Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai, is a temporary intervention outfit assembled in response to residents’ concerns over growing insecurity in parts of the Ikorodu axis.
It draws personnel from the Command Tactical Teams, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Eko Strike Force, three Police Mobile Force units — 2 PMF, 22 PMF, and 63 PMF — alongside other security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). The unit is based in Ijede for swift deployment across Ikorodu and adjoining areas.
The squad has been equipped with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers recently donated to the command by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF). Operations will focus on identified crime hotspots and include intelligence-led raids, stop-and-search patrols, and confidence-building exercises aimed at flushing out criminal elements.
Fatai assured residents that operations would be conducted professionally and within the rule of law. He urged the public to report suspicious activity through the command’s emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929. #Securitynewsalert.com
