The Lagos State Commissioner, Mr Tijani Fatai, on Tuesday, 7th of March 2026, disclosed that operatives of the Command have dealt a crushing blow to organised crime following a series of high-profile operations that led to the dismantling of specialised car vandalisation gangs, armed robbery cells, and a sophisticated multi-million naira financial fraud scheme.

Providing a definitive update on the March 25 invasion of a high-brow Lekki estate, CP Fatai detailed how a gang of predators specialised in stripping exotic vehicles.

To ensure compliance from terrified residents, the suspects reportedly brandished a Mercedes-Benz jack to simulate a firearm.

The CP stated: “Following swift police intervention, three suspects were arrested and have since confessed to being members of a syndicate specialising in vehicle vandalism across Lagos State.”

The recovery operation yielded a black Lexus ES350, two silver Lexus SUVs, heavy-duty iron cutters, and criminal charms used by the group.

He narrated: “The Command’s offensive against violent crime also saw the downfall of a robbery gang terrorising the Ikotun and Egbeda axis. The crackdown began with the arrest of 36-year-old Adeniyi Mumuni, whose interrogation provided the roadmap for a wider tactical strike.

“Acting on technical intelligence, detectives conducted follow-up operations which led to the arrest of four additional suspects on the 1st of April. We recovered a locally made pistol and live ammunition, and we are relentlessly pursuing the remaining gang members.”

The CP further announced the arrest of 62-year-old Robert Smith.

The veteran fraudster is accused of orchestrating a ₦130 million heist against a microfinance bank, allegedly converting the stolen funds into a fleet of high-end automobiles using deceptive financial instruments.

“We have recovered six luxury vehicles valued at over ₦520 million, including unregistered Mercedes-Benz and Lexus models,” the CP noted. “Efforts are ongoing to recover the final vehicle and bring his accomplices to justice.”
