-

The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested 26 suspected street urchins, miscreants and other alleged offenders during a clean-up enforcement operation carried out in parts of Lagos on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs of the Lagos State Taskforce, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the operation commenced at about 8:00 a.m. as part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and environmental nuisances.

The enforcement exercise targeted Muri-Okunola Park in Victoria Island and the Obalende Underbridge.

The agency said those arrested included suspected street urchins, miscreants, drug addicts, drug peddlers, illegal commercial motorcycle (Okada) riders, street traders and illegal ticket touts.

During the operation, officials recovered substances suspected to be Indian hemp, Colorado and other hard drugs.

The Taskforce said normalcy has since been restored in the affected areas.

It added that all 26 suspects would be charged in court in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017, and the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
