The Oyo State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation into the repeated indecent assault of a six-year-old girl in the Ayegun area of Ibadan.
The suspect, identified as 65-year-old Ibrahim Raheem, was apprehended following reports that he targeted the minor throughout December 2025. According to police statements, the victim was allegedly coerced and assaulted on multiple occasions while she was hawking goods in the Onikeke neighbourhood.
During interrogation, Raheem reportedly confessed to indecently abusing the child, though he denied full carnal knowledge. Following the discovery of the abuse, authorities moved swiftly to prioritise the child’s recovery. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital for a comprehensive physical examination and has begun receiving specialised socio-psychological care to address the trauma of the ordeal.
Recognising the sensitive nature of the crime, the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Command’s specialised Gender Desk. This move ensures that the matter is handled with the professional discretion required for crimes involving minors and sexual violence.
“The Oyo State Police Command remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring that perpetrators of such heinous acts are brought to justice,” the Command stated in an official release signed by DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
The Command reaffirmed its stance against the exploitation of minors and encouraged residents to remain vigilant. Members of the public are urged to continue providing credible information to help the police safeguard lives and maintain a secure environment for all residents of the state.
