The Oyo State Police Command has recorded another operational success with the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect in connection with the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl in Ibadan.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the incident was reported on December 25, 2025, at about 7:00 p.m. at the Alakia Adelubi Police Division.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, identified as Daniel Ajibola (male), allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor after administering an intoxicating drink to her,” DSP Olayinka said.

He disclosed that the suspect was promptly arrested and taken into custody, adding that the victim was immediately taken to a hospital for medical examination, while detectives also visited the scene of the incident as part of the investigation.

“The suspect has confessed to the crime,” the police spokesperson confirmed.

In view of the gravity of the offence, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation.

The Commissioner of Police warned that the Command “will not tolerate any form of violence against women or offences targeted at women, minors, or any member of society,” stressing that the suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

He also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for his continued guidance and support, noting that it has further strengthened the Command’s resolve to maintain law and order across the state.

Reassuring residents, the Commissioner stated that the Oyo State Police Command remains fully committed to the protection of lives and property and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.

Through this arrest, the Command reiterated its determination to ensure that offenders are brought to justice while sustaining public trust and confidence.

For emergencies, residents can contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre via the toll-free line 615, or the Police Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
