Oyo Police Arrests Fake Soldier over Motorcycle Theft in Ogbomosho

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspect involved in a motorcycle theft in Ogbomosho, who allegedly impersonated a soldier to perpetrate the crime.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the arrest underscores the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through intelligence-led policing.

DSP Olayinka explained that the case was reported by one Aegboyega Sunday of Oba’s Compound, Ijeru Area, Ogbomosho. The complainant stated that on December 15, 2025, he advertised his unregistered Lifan “Phoon Lady” motorcycle for sale on Facebook and was contacted by an individual who expressed interest in purchasing it.

“The following day, December 16, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m., the suspect met with the complainant and presented himself in military uniform, thereby gaining his trust,” the police spokesperson said. “Under the guise of testing the motorcycle, the suspect collected the key and rode away with the motorcycle.”

DSP Olayinka stated that operatives of the Command, acting on credible intelligence and utilising technological expertise, tracked and lured the suspect to a restaurant in Ilorin, where he was subsequently arrested.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect identified as Lance Corporal Clabamiji Samson (NA: 356241/16) confessed to the crime and disclosed that he is a dismissed personnel of the Nigerian Army,” he added.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication, while also appreciating the Inspector-General of Police for his leadership and support in the fight against crime.

The police spokesperson confirmed that the stolen motorcycle has been recovered, with relevant exhibits secured, while the suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Oyo State Police Command reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to public safety and urged members of the public to report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
