The Oyo State Police Command has recorded a major operational breakthrough with the arrest of two suspects in connection with the alleged conspiracy and rape of a 17-year-old girl in the Moniya area of Ibadan.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the case was reported at the Moniya Police Division by one Akinsola Adenike, who alleged that her neighbour, Adeyemi Daniel, 22, conspired with a female accomplice, Bolaji Rodiya, to sexually assault her niece.
“The report triggered immediate investigative action by the Command,” DSP Olayinka said, noting that preliminary findings indicated the victim was lured to the suspects’ room and allegedly drugged, suggesting premeditation.
Police investigators examined the scene of the incident and recovered relevant exhibits to aid forensic and legal processes. The suspects, according to the police, have since confessed to their alleged roles in the crime.
“They will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation,” the police spokesperson added.
Given the gravity of the offence, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna psc(+), has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for a discreet and comprehensive investigation.
“This step is to ensure focused attention on the matter and to safeguard the integrity of the investigation,” DSP Olayinka said.
CP Haruna also commended the Inspector-General of Police for his leadership and continuous guidance, which he said has strengthened the Command’s capacity to tackle crime effectively.
The Oyo State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
For emergencies, residents are advised to contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on the toll-free line 615, or the Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
