The DOHS Cares for Vulnerable Women and Children Foundation has extended humanitarian support to Precious Pearl Orphanage in Lagos, combining a donation drive with an awareness programme focused on child protection and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the outreach, the Foundation donated essential supplies to support the welfare of children at the orphanage. Members of DOHS also spent time interacting with the children and caregivers, fostering a supportive and engaging environment.
Beyond the donations, the Foundation facilitated a sensitisation session on child abuse and gender-based violence, educating the children on how to recognise, prevent and report abuse. The interactive discussion provided age-appropriate information on children’s rights, personal safety and available channels for seeking help when faced with abuse or exploitation.
A major highlight of the visit was the launch of an SDG-focused initiative known as “Club Therapy,” a creative learning programme designed by DOHS. The club will employ storytelling, poetry, drawing, drama and other forms of literary expression to help children better understand the SDGs while providing a safe space for emotional expression.
Through the initiative, children will explore key development challenges linked to the SDGs, including poverty, gender inequality, access to quality education and climate action, while being encouraged to develop imaginative and child-led solutions.
Speaking at the event, Ololade Ajayi, Founder of DOHS, said the initiative aligns with the Foundation’s mission to promote child welfare, psychosocial support, and holistic development.
“By combining education with literary and creative expression, we are not only improving learning outcomes but also strengthening the confidence and voices of children,” Ajayi said.
The Director of Precious Pearl Orphanage, Mrs Hannah Omeiza, expressed gratitude to the Foundation for the donations and welcomed the launch of the SDG club, noting that the programme would have a lasting positive impact on the children.
The outreach, the Foundation said, reflects its continued commitment to supporting orphans and vulnerable children, advancing SDG awareness at the grassroots level and fostering a culture in which every child is informed, protected and inspired to become a change agent in their community.
