NAFDAC Begins Enforcement of Ban on Sachet Alcohol, PET Bottles Below 200ml

-

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has commenced full enforcement of the ban on alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and polyethene terephthalate (PET) bottles below 200 millilitres.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, disclosed this while appearing on the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) programme, Good Morning Nigeria.

Adeyeye, who responded to questions on the enforcement of the ban, said the agency had moved from regulatory directives to full implementation of the prohibition on the affected alcoholic products.

The NAFDAC chief also provided insight into where enforcement operations would commence and how the agency intends to implement the ban across the country.

The ban on sachet alcoholic drinks and alcoholic beverages in small-sized PET bottles has been a subject of regulatory and public health discussions, particularly over concerns about easy access to alcohol and its potential impact on young people.

Adeyeye’s appearance on the NTA programme comes as NAFDAC intensifies efforts to ensure compliance by manufacturers, distributors and other stakeholders in the alcoholic beverage sector.

The agency urged affected businesses to comply with the ban as enforcement gets underway.
