NANS Applauds Nigeria Police Force for Launching 24/7 School Emergency Response Centres

-

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for launching 24/7 emergency response centres across the country aimed at tackling school-related threats.

The initiative, led by the National Coordinator of the Schools Protection Squad (SPS), CP Abayomi Shogunle, aligns with the Federal Government’s Safe Schools Initiative and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Announced during a stakeholders’ forum in Ibadan, Oyo State, the programme aims to provide rapid intervention against school-based emergencies, including kidnappings and violence. NANS President, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, praised the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, for his leadership in making schools safer for students and educators alike.

Highlighting the use of modern surveillance tools like CCTV cameras and drones, Oladoja emphasised the importance of collaboration with other security agencies, educational institutions, and community leaders to ensure a proactive approach to school security.

“This initiative marks a turning point in securing our academic spaces,” Oladoja said. “Students must stay vigilant, report suspicious activities, and make full use of the 24/7 centres available via 08077357777.”

NANS also urged students nationwide to actively participate in safety sensitisation programmes and work with authorities to enhance school security. The association reiterated its commitment to supporting education safety policies and called for greater efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children
