The President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Dr Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, has urged members of the association to remain united, uphold high standards of leadership and embrace continuous learning to advance the welfare and empowerment of military families.
Dr Shaibu made the call during the NAOWA National Executive Meeting and Sensitisation Programme held on August 5 and 6, 2026, where members from chapters across the country reviewed the association’s activities, deliberated on key issues and mapped out strategies for its continued growth and sustainability.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, the NAOWA President described the gathering as a critical platform for assessing progress, addressing emerging challenges and developing practical strategies to strengthen the association.
She reiterated her vision of building “a united and innovative NAOWA that would better empower military families through self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.”
Dr Shaibu highlighted achievements recorded under her leadership, including initiatives in education, healthcare, youth empowerment, humanitarian interventions, leadership development and sustainable livelihood programmes.
She encouraged members to contribute ideas and participate actively in discussions aimed at producing resolutions that would improve the lives of military families.
On the second day of the meeting, the NAOWA President commended members for their commitment and constructive contributions, urging all chapters to implement the resolutions reached.
She stressed that leadership should be anchored on integrity, accountability and selfless service, reminding members that leadership positions are temporary and should be used to create lasting legacies.
“Every chapter should translate the resolutions into measurable programmes that will positively impact members and their communities,” she said.
The meeting also featured capacity-building and sensitisation sessions on the NAOWA Multipurpose Cooperative Society and drug prevention, treatment and care. The sessions were facilitated by experts from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and focused on promoting financial inclusion, economic empowerment and raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.Dr. Shaibu urged participants to replicate the knowledge gained in their respective chapters to expand the impact of the initiatives.
She also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Principal Staff Officers, Field and Theatre Commanders, General Officers Commanding, Corps Commanders, Formation Commanders and NAOWA members for their continued support.
The NAOWA President called on members to remain committed to building a stronger, more innovative association that would continue to improve the lives of military families and contribute to community development.
