Niger Makes Corruption a Capital Crime, Steal Big, Face Firing Squad

-

Niger has introduced one of Africa’s toughest anti-corruption laws under its new penal code.

If anyone is found guilty of embezzling 200 million CFA francs (about $330,000), they could face life imprisonment.

But it gets even crazier.

Anyone convicted of embezzling more than 1 billion CFA francs (about $1.7 million) could face the death penalty.

The law adopted under Niger’s military-led government also scraps the statute of limitations on embezzlement and makes prosecution mandatory, as the country moves to crack down on large-scale theft of public funds. #Securitynewsalert.com
