Nigeria Police Force Rescues 189 Kidnap Victims in April Crackdown

-

The Nigeria Police Force has announced sweeping successes in its April 2026 operations, describing them as “major operational breakthroughs” in the fight against violent crime.

In a statement from Force Headquarters, Abuja, the Police confirmed the arrest of 28 suspected terrorists, 85 suspected kidnappers, 62 armed robbery suspects, 51 individuals accused of murder and culpable homicide, and 54 suspected cultists. The Force also rescued 189 kidnapped victims from criminal hideouts across the country.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, praised the officers involved, saying, “These achievements reflect the growing effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing and enhanced inter-agency collaboration in addressing evolving security threats.” He added that the operations demonstrated “professionalism, resilience, and dedication to duty.”

The crackdown also led to the recovery of 140 assorted firearms, 1,074 rounds of ammunition, and 37 stolen vehicles linked to criminal activities.

Reassuring Nigerians, the IGP declared, “The Force remains resolute in its determination to dismantle criminal networks, strengthen public safety, and sustain ongoing reforms aimed at building a more accountable, professional, and people-centred Police Force.”

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, emphasised that security is a shared responsibility, urging citizens to provide timely and credible information to aid law enforcement.
