A Nigerian-American citizen and United States Army personnel, Mr Mustapha Yusuf, has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, for his commitment to professionalism and the rule of law while appealing for urgent intervention in the investigation of an alleged threat to his life.
In a petition addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Yusuf requested the immediate intervention of the police hierarchy in an investigation being handled by the Homicide Section of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Lagos, involving allegations of threat to life, intimidation, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
According to the petitioner, the complaint was filed against Hon. Mrs Mosunmola Sangodara Rotimi, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Surulere Constituency II.
Yusuf stated that following the submission of his petition, detectives at the FCID commenced an investigation, during which a woman identified as MMrsDupe Adedokun w, whome alleged was sent to monitor or ascertain his whereabouts, was arrested and voluntarily provided a statement to investigators.
He further disclosed that the police subsequently invited Hon. Rotimi to respond to the allegations. According to him, she was initially asked to report on June 16, 2026, but did not honour the invitation. She later indicated that she would appear on July 16, 2026, but again failed to do so. A further reminder was reportedly issued for July 20, 2026, which he said was also not honoured.
The petitioner expressed concern that despite his consistent follow-up with investigators, the matter appeared to have stalled, raising fears about his personal safety and confidence in the pace of the investigation.
“I am increasingly concerned that the investigation appears to have stalled despite the respondent’s repeated failure to honour police invitations. This has heightened my fears for my safety,” he stated.
While appealing to the Inspector-General of Police, Yusuf praised the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, noting that the Force has continued to demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and equality before the law.
He stressed that his request was not for preferential treatment but for due process to be allowed to take its course without regard to the status or public office of those involved.
The petitioner urged the IGP to direct that the investigation at the FCID Homicide Section, Alagbon, be reviewed and expedited, ensure that all lawful investigative procedures are taken to secure the cooperation of relevant persons, and guarantee that the investigation is conducted impartially, professionally, and without fear or favour.
He also appealed to the police authorities to take any additional lawful steps necessary to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Yusuf expressed confidence that the Inspector-General would give the petition urgent consideration, saying he remained optimistic that the Nigeria Police Force under the current leadership would ensure fairness and justice for all parties involved. #Securitynewsalert.com
