The Nigerian Army has declared a soldier attached to its Ordnance Corps wanted over allegations that he illegally sold and supplied military uniforms to terrorists and other criminal elements.
The soldier, identified as Private Mohammed Yusuf Amutu, was serving at the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory before he allegedly absconded from his unit on 3 June 2026, according to the Headquarters Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps (NAOC).
In a statement issued by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations at NAOC, Major Oluwatope Dorcas Aluko, the Army said preliminary investigations pointed to Amutu’s involvement in the illicit trade, prompting military authorities to declare him wanted while efforts continue to track him down.
“Intensive efforts are underway to locate and apprehend him to face a full investigation and appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with extant military laws,” the statement read.
The Corps said it maintains zero tolerance for misconduct or any act capable of compromising the operational effectiveness, integrity and reputation of the Nigerian Army, or that threatens national security.
It warned that any personnel found aiding terrorists or criminal elements through the unauthorised sale or diversion of military uniforms and other controlled items would face the full weight of military and civil laws.
The Army has appealed to members of the public to assist with credible information that could lead to Amutu’s arrest, urging that such information be reported to the nearest military formation or any security agency.
