Nigerian Army Intercepts Massive Haul of Cannabis Sativa in Ogun

-

Troops of the 35 Artillery Brigade successfully intercepted 296 large wraps of suspected Cannabis Sativa along the Abeokuta-Igboora Road.

Securitynewsalert.com gathered that the seizure occurred at approximately 4:30 AM on March 1, 2026, after strategic intelligence reached the Brigade regarding a planned shipment of illicit substances. Upon spotting the military patrol, a lone suspect abandoned his unregistered motorcycle and the contraband, escaping into the dense forest under the cover of darkness.

The intercepted haul was discovered concealed within three massive sacks. Following the recovery, the Nigerian Army officially handed over the narcotics and the abandoned motorcycle to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, for further investigation and disposal.

Major Idereghi Samuel Akari, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 35 Artillery Brigade, emphasised that the operation was part of a broader strategy to sanitise the state of drug-related criminal activities.

“The 35 Artillery Brigade is resolved to make Ogun State unsafe for drug traffickers and other criminal elements,” Major Akari stated. “We urge those involved in these activities to engage in legitimate businesses or find themselves in the net of security agencies.”

The Brigade’s leadership reassured residents that the military remains vigilant and will maintain a robust presence across the state to deter criminal elements from operating with impunity.

“The Nigerian Army remains fully committed to protecting lives and properties,” Akari added. “We will continue to prevent criminals from operating freely within our areas of responsibility.”

The NDLEA has commenced a manhunt for the fleeing suspect as they continue to analyse the seized substances.
