Nigerian Police Deploy Senior Officers to Regions, Launch Cross-Border Patrol Initiative

-

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the deployment of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) to their respective geopolitical zones, effective Monday, June 15, as part of a broader push to tighten security coordination across the country.

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu announced during a monthly conference with senior officers at Force Headquarters in Abuja, framing the move as an effort to bring strategic leadership closer to field operations and improve accountability.

“The DIGs are expected to work closely with Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police to enhance operational oversight,” the force said in a statement.

Alongside the zonal deployments, Disu ordered all state Commissioners of Police to immediately launch coordinated cross-border operations with counterparts in neighbouring states. Dubbed “Handshake Patrols,” the initiative is designed to improve intelligence sharing and enable joint responses to crimes that straddle state lines.

The IGP cited a familiar challenge driving the new directive: criminals committing offences in one state and fleeing into another to evade arrest. Commissioners have been charged with maintaining regular contact with neighbouring commands and conducting joint patrols along major entry and exit routes.

The force described the measures as part of its commitment to intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration. #Securitynewsalert.com
