The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a series of intelligence-led operations across the state, leading to the arrest of five suspects, including a father and his son, and the recovery of four firearms, a live cartridge, and a stolen Tecno Android phone valued at ₦180,000.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operations were carried out by officers attached to different divisions of the command.
Babaseyi said operatives of the Afon Division arrested Fatai Adegbola and his 23-year-old son, Waliu Adegbola, following a report of theft received on May 22, 2026.
“The suspect, Waliu Adegbola, was alleged to have stolen a Tecno Android phone valued at ₦180,000 from a residential apartment on May 8, 2026. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives swiftly tracked and recovered the stolen phone,” he said.
He added that further investigations led police officers to search the suspects’ residence with a duly obtained warrant, where a locally made pistol and a dane gun were allegedly recovered.
“Further discreet investigation led to a search of the suspects’ residence conducted pursuant to a duly obtained warrant, during which a locally made pistol and a dane gun were recovered, allegedly concealed within the premises. The suspects are in custody, while the investigation is ongoing to determine their full involvement and possible accomplices,” Babaseyi stated.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Ilisan Remo Division recovered a locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge during a routine patrol at the Ilisan Remo Roundabout on May 27, 2026.
“The item was discovered abandoned and immediately secured by the patrol team. The exhibit has been deposited in the division’s armoury for safe custody, while investigation is ongoing to trace its origin and ownership,” the police spokesperson said.
Also, officers attached to the Ode Remo Division arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Inioluwa Adesanya, in connection with the theft of a dane gun belonging to a resident of the area.
According to Babaseyi, investigations revealed that Adesanya gained access to the complainant’s residence by posing as a carpenter’s assistant engaged for renovation work before allegedly stealing the firearm.
“During investigation, the suspect confessed to the offence and admitted affiliation with the Aye confraternity, further stating that the weapon was modified for concealment purposes,” he said.
The police spokesperson noted that the recovered Dane gun had been secured as an exhibit, while the suspect remains in custody pending transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
Babaseyi disclosed that all the cases have been transferred to the SCID for discreet investigation and possible prosecution.
Commenting on the successes, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response.
“The Command remains committed to sustained operations against violent crime, cultism, armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms across the state,” Ojajuni said.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines. #Securitynewsalert.com
