Ogun Police Hosts Over 150 Crime Management Students in Educational Visit to Command Headquarters

-

The Ogun State Police Command on Sunday hosted more than 150 students from the National Association of Crime Management Students (NACRIMS), Federal Polytechnic Ilaro Chapter, in an educational excursion aimed at exposing future crime management professionals to the practical realities of modern policing.

The students, who were accompanied by their lecturers and supervisors from the Department of Crime Management, visited the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, as part of efforts to deepen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and academic institutions.

The visit falls under the broader community policing philosophy championed by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which emphasises youth engagement and preventive, non-kinetic approaches to tackling crime. It was organised under the leadership of Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni.

Orientation and Crime Prevention Sensitisation

The programme opened with a briefing on the Nigeria Police Force’s organisational structure, operational strategies, and intelligence-driven crime prevention initiatives. The State Coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, welcomed the delegation and outlined the Command’s approach to maintaining public safety across Ogun State.

In a sensitisation session, Opeyemi spoke to students about the dangers of cultism, substance abuse, cybercrime, and violent extremism, urging them to become “ambassadors” of the POCACOV campaign on their campus and in their communities. At the end of the session, students pledged to reject cultism, drug abuse, and other criminal conduct.

The Command’s Legal Officer, ASP Saheed Abdulganiyu, also addressed the students, walking them through police investigative procedures, including how complaints are received, how investigations are conducted, and the constitutional protections afforded to suspects during arrest and prosecution.

Speaking on behalf of CP Ojajuni, Command officers reaffirmed his commitment to partnering with schools as part of a broader crime-prevention strategy, saying continued engagement with young people helps build public trust.

The Head of the Department of Crime Management at Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Mrs Adeoye K.T., and NACRIMS chapter president Makinde Ridwan Ayomide both thanked the Command for hosting the students, describing the visit as an enriching experience that broadened their understanding of policing and crime management.

The Ogun Police Command said it remains committed to youth-focused initiatives and institutional partnerships as part of its ongoing crime-prevention agenda.
