Series #100: Lone Working Is Risky and Should Be Properly Managed

-

Working alone can expose individuals to unnecessary safety and security risks, especially in environments where immediate assistance may be needed. While some jobs require lone working, it should only be done after proper risk assessment and with adequate safety measures in place.

Accidents, medical emergencies, equipment failure, or security threats can occur without warning. Having a colleague nearby or maintaining regular communication with a supervisor or trusted contact can make a critical difference during an emergency. Employers should also establish clear lone working procedures, including check-in systems, emergency contacts, and access to communication devices.
No financial gain or convenience is worth risking a life. Where a task requires teamwork for safety, it should never be handled by one person simply to reduce costs or maximise profit.
A safety-conscious individual understands that seeking support when needed is a sign of wisdom, not weakness.
Quote: Working together strengthens safety, while working alone without proper safeguards increases risk.
Just be good. Reflect. Stay alert.
