Outrage After Toddler’s Femur Fractured in Brutal Italian Supermarket Kidnap Attempt

-

Outrage has followed the release of a shocking security footage showing a 47-year-old man attempting to snatch a one-year-old girl from her mother’s arms in a busy northern Italian supermarket.

SecurityNewsAlert.com reports that the incident, which occurred at the Esselunga shopping complex in Bergamo, has left the infant with a fractured femur and her mother with a broken leg, injuries sustained during a desperate, violent struggle to prevent the abduction.

Surveillance video captured the moment the mother was exiting the store with her daughter when the suspect, identified by authorities as a homeless Romanian national with no prior criminal record, lunged forward.

In a chilling display of aggression, the man allegedly grabbed the toddler by her legs and attempted to rip her away from her mother.

The mother “fought like a lioness,” according to witnesses, refusing to let go even as she was forced to the ground. The child’s father, along with supermarket security guards and quick-thinking bystanders, intervened to restrain the attacker until police arrived.

Securitynewsalert.com reports that following the release of the footage by Fox News@FoxNews, the video has gone viral, instilling fear and chills into mothers and generating heated discussion on social media.

On platforms like X, the reaction has been one of visceral anger and heartbreak.

One user, Salem (@sabo_salem), expressed the collective disbelief of many, questioning how someone could even think to do this to a one-year-old and noting that the fracture to the little girl’s femur “makes my blood boil.” Others, like Trend_X_Now, highlighted the mother’s sacrifice, stating that “no punishment is enough” after she broke her own leg saving her daughter.

The conversation quickly turned to the need for stricter protections for children, with Abiola Autos (@AbiolaAutos) calling the incident a “major blow” to the child’s life and demanding a punishment that “sets an example.” Meanwhile, the debate over public safety intensified as users like Celoteh Dunia (@CelotehDuniaku) questioned whether retail spaces need a higher security presence or if “lone wolf” incidents are simply impossible to prevent.

While Italian police have charged the suspect with attempted aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault, the motive remains unclear.

Early reports suggest the man was homeless, but online discourse has been fueled by unverified claims and fears regarding human trafficking networks operating in the region.

Medical professionals have stressed the severity of the child’s injury.  A fractured femur in a toddler is a high-impact injury that often requires significant recovery time and can have long-term developmental implications, a sentiment echoed by Jill B (@JillBut13180229), whose own child suffered a similar injury and noted it “can change your life.”

Securitynewsalert.com heard that the suspect is currently in custody, facing charges of attempted child abduction and causing grievous bodily harm.

Both the mother and daughter are receiving treatment at a local hospital. The child is reported to be in stable condition despite the severity of the fracture, while the community remains on high alert following what many are calling an act of “pure brutality.”
