Oyo Police Arrests Two Suspected Cattle Rustlers, Recovers ₦6.25m Worth of Livestock

-

In a significant breakthrough for community safety, the Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected cattle rustlers and recovered twenty-six stolen cows valued at approximately ₦6,250,000.

The suspects, identified as Abu Muhammed and Aliu Bello, were apprehended following a rapid response by officers from the Iresadu Division. The operation took place at Odojaye via Aganyan, where the suspects were reportedly attempting to conceal the stolen livestock.

The arrest was made possible through a blend of proactive policing and intelligence-led investigation. According to a statement released on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the suspects have already confessed to the crime.

“Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the theft and provided details of the criminal network,” the statement read.

While twenty-six cows were recovered at the scene, the Command noted that investigations are still active. Police are currently tracking other members of the gang and working to recover the remaining stolen livestock.

The Command highlighted the vital role played by residents and non-state security actors in the success of the mission. The PPRO emphasised that the timely reporting of suspicious activity by the public was the catalyst for the swift intervention.

The Oyo State Police Command also extended its gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for his leadership and guidance in strengthening national policing efforts.

The Police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of Oyo State residents. To support ongoing efforts to maintain law and order, members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
