The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended two suspects in connection with the death of a 20-year-old bricklayer, Abdulraheem Koni, in Budo Mosalasi Village, Saki.
The arrests of Lateef Giwa (35) and Adediran Quazim followed a swift intelligence-led investigation into the tragic incident, which reportedly stemmed from a workplace dispute.
According to police reports, the primary suspect, Lateef Giwa, was the employer of the deceased. During the course of their work, an altercation broke out between Giwa and Koni. The situation escalated into a violent assault, with Giwa and his accomplice, Quazim, allegedly inflicting severe injuries and bruises on the young labourer.
Although Koni received medical treatment following the attack, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Following credible tips, detectives moved in to arrest the duo. According to DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the suspects have since made “useful confessions” regarding their involvement in the killing.
“This breakthrough underscores the importance of intelligence-led operations in resolving serious crimes efficiently,” the Command stated in an official release on Thursday.
CP Femi Haruna, the Commissioner of Police for Oyo State, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a more comprehensive and discreet inquiry into allegations of assault and conspiracy.
The Command reiterated its commitment to proactive policing and thanked the public for providing the information that led to the arrests. They also expressed gratitude to Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his strategic leadership in tackling violent crime nationwide.
