The Oyo State Police Command presented insurance cheques worth ₦37,889,857.87 to 48 families of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The gesture, carried out on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families.
Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, who made the presentation, described the initiative as more than a financial intervention.
“No amount of money can replace the lives lost,” Olugbenga said. “But this gesture is intended to provide some financial respite and cushion the impact of the loss on the affected families.”
He urged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely, particularly to support the welfare, education, and future aspirations of their children.
“The sacrifices made by your loved ones will remain an enduring part of the proud tradition of the Nigeria Police Force,” he added.
The Commissioner reassured the families that their bond with the Force remains intact despite their loss.
“You are still part of the larger Nigeria Police family. Under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, personnel welfare will continue to receive sustained attention,” he affirmed.
The initiative is part of a broader welfare framework designed to support serving, retired, and deceased officers, ensuring their families are not left behind.
