Oyo Police Rescues Five-Year-Old Girl, Arrests Two Suspected Kidnappers

-

The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a five-year-old girl and arrested two suspected kidnappers following an intelligence-led operation, the Command announced.

The victim, Miss Fikayo Gbemiga, was abducted on 3 July 2026 from her home in the Iyana Offa area of Ibadan. She was found unhurt on 11 July at about 10:35 p.m. during a raid on a hideout in the Mojoyin Molade area of Iwo Road, Ibadan, where both suspects were also arrested.

The suspects have been identified as Adegboye Seyi Sunday, 37, and Adegboye Elijah Adefemi, 25. Police say the pair unlawfully entered the victim’s residence, abducted her, and demanded a ₦10 million ransom for her release.

Investigators say the family had already paid the suspects ₦1 million in Gbongan, Osun State, on 8 July as part of the ransom negotiations. Police are now working to recover that money and to track down other suspected members of the syndicate still at large.

The arrests followed a sustained operation by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, which used technological and other investigative tools to trace the suspects to their hideout. The suspects are said to be cooperating with investigators.

Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga praised the operatives involved and said the Command remains committed to ridding Oyo State of kidnapping and other violent crimes through intelligence-led policing and public cooperation.

The Command urged residents to continue reporting credible information, saying tips would be treated with confidentiality and acted on promptly.
